USHER REGRETS NOT SLOWING DOWN FOR HIS LATE FATHER

23 07 2008

R+B star USHER regrets not spending more time with his father before he died in January (08).
The Yeah! singer reconciled with Usher Terry Raymond III after spending much of his life estranged from his parent – and now wishes he had had more time to get to know his dad.
Usher admits he was too busy to sit down and talk to the man he always thought had deserted him as a child.
He says, “Instead of being there when he was sick, I was working.
“There was no amount of money that could have fixed my father’s health, but I could have just spent that time with him.”
Now a father himself, Usher accepts there were reasons why his own dad couldn’t be around for him when he was younger.
He adds, “I forgave him for anything he’d ever done to hurt me unintentionally… It was very difficult for him to be in the situation he was in and be the example he wanted me to follow. So he intentionally stayed away.
“He was kept away from me too. He didn’t like it, but he didn’t fight it because he knew he wasn’t living right.”
His father’s final words to him inspired Usher to write a heartfelt song for his son, Prayer For You.
Usher explains, “He asked me to forgive him for not being there. He let me know that he never stopped praying for me. This compelled me to write a song to my son.”
And his father’s mistakes will make Usher a better dad: “I’m gonna be the father that my dad wished he was to me.”

USHER’S CONCERNS OVER HYPERACTIVE SON

23 07 2008

R+B star USHER is always worried about the welfare of his seven-month old son – because the tot is so hyperactive.
The Confessions singer welcomed his first child, Usher Raymond V, in November (07) with his wife Tameka Foster.
But Usher and Foster live in constant fear that the youngster will injure himself because he is such an active child.
Foster tells Usweekly.com, “He’s like hyper baby – he’s crawling so fast. He stands up, and he’s walking around the table. It’s amazing to watch him. I’ve never seen a baby crawl so fast! I call him Dash, like on the Incredibles (2004 Pixar movie).
“We’re just scared because the baby knows how to get off the bed already, so our bed is like a gigantic crib because we have rails.”
And Foster admits that they are already keen to expand their brood.
She adds, “I’d love to have more, we just gotta make the time.”

Usher’s Wife: Usher Jr. Is a “Hyper Baby”

23 07 2008

Usher’s son may only be about seven months old, but he’s already a handful!

“He’s like hyper baby — he’s crawling so fast!” mom Tameka Foster told Usmagazine.com at the 2008 HollyRod Foundation 10th Annual DesignCare Fundraiser over the weekend.

“He stands up, and he’s walking around the table … it’s amazing to watch him,” added Foster, 38. “I’ve never seen a baby crawl so fast! I call him Dash, like on the Incredibles!”

While Foster called motherhood “wonderful,” she said “every day is a new challenge with him.

“We’re just scared because the baby knows how to get off the bed already, so our bed is like a gigantic crib because we have rails.

“It’s hilarious!” Foster added. “Can you imagine a king-size crib?”

Even though Foster and Usher, 29, who wed in Atlanta last August (see more celebrity wedding photos), have their hands full, they’d like to expand their brood.

“I’d love to have more, we just gotta make the time,” Foster said.

R&B Superstar Usher Kicks Off Atlanta Voter Registration Drive

22 07 2008

Atlanta native and Grammy award-winning superstar Usher is taking a break from signing autographs to help sign up young voters.

Usher’s New Look foundation, established to empower youth from underserved communities, partnered with civil rights activist the Rev. Joseph Lowery to kick off “I Can’t but U-Can,” a community wide voter registration drive, at Georgia Tech Sunday. Most of the participants in Usher’s annual two-week New Look foundation summer camp are too young to vote, which is why the voter registration effort is titled “I Can’t but U-Can.” However, the R&B superstar is hoping his roster of campers will encourage their parents, older siblings, and others to register to vote because the campers’ futures are at stake, too.”It affects everything from the campers’ education to economic future,” said Shawn Wilson, president of Usher’s New Look foundation.Several community organizations across metro Atlanta, including the Lite House, Hank Stewart Foundation, SCLC Women and the Future Foundation, have committed to hosting registration drives as part of the “I Can’t but U-Can” initiative. This is the fourth year Usher’s New Look foundation has held the summer camp. The camp aims to expose participants to the business side of the sports and entertainment industries.
