Papa Joe to be guest of honor in Gary

GARY | Joe Jackson, the father of Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson and the Jackson Five, is coming back to Indiana for a visit.

Gary Mayor Rudy Clay will welcome the former Gary resident during a round-table discussion at 11 a.m. Tuesday at City Hall.

A ceremony to unveil the honorary street sign renaming of 2300 Jackson St. will follow the event at City Hall.

Clay also will make a special presentation to Jackson during the discussion in the Gary Room.

Joe Jackson is currently in production of a new reality show, “Meet Joe Jackson.”

JACKSON TAKES HIS KIDS TO SEE WALL-E

MICHAEL JACKSON wowed cinemagoers in Las Vegas, Nevada on Monday afternoon (14Jul08) when he took his kids to see WALL-E on the big screen.
The pop superstar, his three children and four security guards checked out a matinee screening of the hit Pixar movie at a virtually empty cinema at the Palms resort.
One eyewitness, who was watching the film with his stepdaughter, admits he was amazed when he realised who was sitting in front of him.
He tells WENN, “There were no disguises and the three kids weren’t wearing the masks they’ve become famous for. Despite the guards, it was just a family trip to the cinema. They all wore red baseball caps.
“There was me, my stepdaughter and a Japanese couple and their kid – and that was it, so I think Michael must have picked a quiet day to come and see the film.
“They seemed to enjoy the film; Jackson’s daughter appeared to like it more than anyone.”

Usher’s Camp New Look 2008 Continues to Empower and Educate Inner-City Youth

Superstar Entertainer Will Host 4th Annual Camp to Benefit At Risk Adolescents in Hometown of Atlanta ATLANTA, July 14 /PRNewswire/ — Grammy Award winning entertainer and philanthropist Usher Raymond IV, in conjunction with his New Look Foundation, will welcome 126 underserved youths from throughout the country to the Atlanta area for this year’s Camp New Look. Held July 14-27 at Georgia Tech University in Atlanta, Camp New Look is a two-week summer camp which empowers children and educates them about the business aspects of the sports and entertainment industries. During the free camp, kids ages 12 to 17 will participate in workshops and seminars that will help them to enrich their skills in various areas including New Look’s core components — music, dance, sports, acting, and video production.

Now in its fourth consecutive year, the 2008 Camp New Look curriculum will include the fundamentals of launching a new fragrance. New Look campers will develop and launch a fragrance for an NHL All-Star athlete, getting help and advice from the executive team at Liz Claiborne Cosmetics. Campers will be taught the fundamentals of manufacturing, engineering, marketing, promoting and launching the fragrance. New Look has expanded this program and has also partnered with the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream to provide internships with New Look alumni. The joint ventures with the NHL and WNBA will provide Camp New Look graduates with the chance to gain behind-the-scenes insights from the best in the business, while also allowing them to explore and enhance their talents and skills.

“This year’s camp is going to be bigger and more exciting than ever,” said Usher. “We really strive to provide our campers with the best support and most beneficial experience available. I want to move beyond the exposure of Camp New Look and create a true career pipeline for underserved kids so that they can turn their experiences into careers in multi-billion dollar industries.”

Additionally, campers will take field trips to various companies and organizations that are designed to enhance their overall understanding of business. Special guests are also expected to visit the camp to share their professional experiences. Previous guests include music stars Ludacris, Omarion and Lloyd, and athletes Allen Rossum (Atlanta Falcons) and Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic).

On Friday, July 25, Usher and Charles Ellis, store director of Tiffany & Co. Atlanta, will host a private, star-studded reception at the lavish Tiffany & Co. at Phipps Plaza in Atlanta. The celebration will also mark the release of Usher’s uCast — a bi-weekly online series that features an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at Usher’s life as a recording star, philanthropist and businessman. uCast is an educational podcast series that receives over 35,000 downloads weekly. Usher’s uCast has enjoyed immense popularity, reaching as high as No.7 on I-Tunes music podcasts.

Usher’s Wife Fine with Groupies

R+B star Usher has hit back at suggestions his wife is envious of his legions of female fans, insisting she understands it is these women who buy his records.

The Confessions star married stylist Tameka Foster last August and he claims she has since adjusted to the fact her husband has scores of amorous female admirers.

He explains, “Tameka doesn’t mind when the fans throw their underwear at me. Being a sex symbol pays the bills. And she knows that.”

Michael Jacksons Billie Jean Voted Best Dance Record Ever

Billie Jean by Michael Jackson has been voted the best dance song of all time in a new poll.

Radio 2 listeners named the 1983 chart-topper as their favourite ever dance record after an expert panel created a shortlist of 20 songs.

Billie Jean, which won two Grammys, was written by Jackson and co-produced with the legendary Quincy Jones.

Donna Summer’s 1977 disco classic I Feel Love finished second while James Brown’s Get Up (I Feel Like Being A) Sex Machine from 1970 finished.

DJ Zoe Ball, who hosted the radio station’s three-part dance music poll as part of a special season, said she was “delighted” that Billie Jean had topped the poll.

“This is Jackson at his best,” Ball added.

“This track is way up there for me – Jacko’s rendition of it at the Motown 25th anniversary show has got to be one of the great live performances of all time.

“The bassline is awesome, the production is killer. It’s just perfect.”

Sound engineer Bruce Swedien told the BBC that Jackson had requested that the song have “the greatest sonic personality that you can possibly put on a track – starting with the drums”.

Usher to Sing at Democratic Convention

Usher is set to boost Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, by performing at the Democratic Convention next month.

Usher’s manager Benny Medina reveals Usher has been approached about appearing at the event in Denver, Colorado in August.

Medina tells the New York Daily News, “There’ve been offers to do things in and around the convention and we are just looking to see which one will be the most productive. He is obviously a huge Barack supporter.”
